100 jobs on the way for Cork as BioMarin Manufacturing Ireland expands

More than 100 jobs are being created in Cork, as a result of the expansion of US biopharma company BioMarin Manufacturing Ireland in the city.

The company says it expects to hire 40 positions by 2015, across a range of activities including manufacturing and manufacturing sciences & technology, facilities and engineering, quality, information technology, finance and administration.
In addition, a further 65 construction jobs are planned as the company’s site in the city is expanded.
Speaking at the announcement of the BioMarin’s growth plans, Irish government minister Richard Bruton said: “The pharmaceutical industry is central to the government’s plans for jobs and growth, and we have put in place a range of measures to target opportunities in this area.
“In the context of global difficulties facing the traditional parts of the industry, we have put a focus on biopharma and genetics, and we have managed to grow employment in the sector despite the challenges.”
