UK pay rose 2.2% in the year to April 2013, just falling short of inflation, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

This is the fifth year in a row that earnings growth has been lower than the consumer prices index (CPI), but while previous years have seen big disparity between the rates, this year CPI fell to 2.4%.
Average pre-tax weekly earnings of £517 broke down into £490 in the private sector, and £574 in the public sector.
Men earned an average of £13.60 an hour, compared to £12.24 for women, with the gender pay gap widening from £1.26 last year.
London and the South East are the only regions where people earn on average more than that national average rate, with all other parts of the UK falling slightly below that rate.
