Mon, 11 Nov 2013Mitchell Fromstein, the former president and chief executive officer of staffing giant ManpowerGroup, who led the company through a period of substantial growth, has passed away.
After initially working in advertising, Fromstein served as president and CEO for 23 years from 1976 to 1999, growing the firm from a $300m (£187m) US-based business to a $10bn global giant.
Arriving the same year the firm was acquired by pen-maker the Parker Pen Company, Fromstein took over the role from co-founder Elmer Winter. His tenure saw the company become independent again in 1986, and it was then acquired in 1987 by UK recruiter Blue Arrow, before re-emerging as an independent firm in 1991.
Fromstein was succeeded by current president and CEO Jeffrey Joerres, who describes Fromstein as “not only a trusted friend but a great mentor and an adviser”, who had urged him to join the company in 1993.
Flags at the firm’s global headquarters in Milwaukee will fly at half-mast this week.
Fromstein, who died on 7 November, was 85.
