Mon, 28 Oct 2013The Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) believes the tourist sector can create 127,000 new jobs in the country by 2017 and contribute 8% of the country’s overall GDP, according to tourism industry news site Travel Daily ME.

QTA chair Issa Mohammed al Mohannadi says the 8% target is in line with international averages, reports the site.

The jobs figure is a big jump from the current 19,900 tourist jobs in the country, the website says.

Al Mohannadi says Qatar saw a 15% increase in inbound tourist numbers in Q3 2013.

Qatari growth and economic development has up until now focused mainly on the oil industry and infrastructure & construction – with the country facing major recruitment demands ahead of the 2022 Football World Cup.
