Qatar aims at tourism sector for economic growth and new jobs

The Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) believes the tourist sector can create 127,000 new jobs in the country by 2017 and contribute 8% of the country’s overall GDP, according to tourism industry news site Travel Daily ME.

QTA chair Issa Mohammed al Mohannadi says the 8% target is in line with international averages, reports the site.
The jobs figure is a big jump from the current 19,900 tourist jobs in the country, the website says.
Al Mohannadi says Qatar saw a 15% increase in inbound tourist numbers in Q3 2013.
Qatari growth and economic development has up until now focused mainly on the oil industry and infrastructure & construction – with the country facing major recruitment demands ahead of the 2022 Football World Cup.
