BIE Group looks to recruit across Africa with new office

Tue, 8 Oct 2013Recruiter.co.uk hears that Nigeria and Zambia are markets of particular interest for executive search and interim management firm BIE Group, as it opens an office in South Africa on 1 November.

The firm’s chief executive officer Rob Walker says the moves comes about in a large part due to client demand. “There’s three specific multinationals who have asked us recently what we can do in the pan-African market, so this isn’t just a case of ‘oh, Africa sounds like a good idea’,” he tells recruiter.co.uk.

BIE’s African operation will work across the disciplines currently offered by the firm, whose existing three offices are all in the UK. However, nearly half of BIE business is overseas, Walker says.

The Durban office will be led by BIE director Byron Tarboton, a native South African, who joined the firm in 2009 and will relocate from the UK.

Tarboton says South Africa is “going to be one of the strongest [markets] certainly to begin with”, but notes that Nigeria will also be one to watch, alongside Zambia.

Tarboton also says that a major issue across the continent is reversing or stemming brain drain. Click to read the Global Spotlight on Ghana from the July edition of Recruiter for more on this topic.
