Perhaps there is something to be said for parents not knowing exactly what their children do, because a new study reveals that even when they know the job title they are none the wiser.

The study by LinkedIn found a high degree of confusion, bafflement and sheer ignorance. Top of the dazed and confused list of parents are those of ‘user interface designers’ – 82% of whom are puzzled.

Apparently one in eight of these parents doesn’t even know the industry or sector in which their child works.  Overall 46% said they were similarly bemused.  

A quarter of young workers feel it would be beneficial if their parents understood their job, which rather assumes they understand it themselves…
