Fri, 6 Sep 2013The Royal Mail is kicking off its Christmas recruitment campaign to hire 21,100 people for seasonal roles across the UK – the same number of temporary hires as last year.

While summer seems only just on its way out, the Royal Mail is looking ahead to filling the roles, which are available between early November and early January 2014.

The positions are spread across the UK, with 18,000 in England, 2,000 in Scotland, 700 in Wales and 400 in Northern Ireland, and bolster the organisation’s existing 124,000 postmen and women.

The “overwhelming majority [of jobs] are being directly recruited by Royal Mail”, a spokesperson for the organisation tells recruiter.co.uk. This is the second year in a row of direct recruitment by Royal Mail, following major difficulties in the delivery of recruitment in 2011 through in-house agency Angard Staffing Solutions.

Part of Royal Mail’s Christmas recruitment campaign in 2012 and 2013 has involved sending cards at regular intervals through the year to staff who had worked with them in previous years, inviting them to apply early for jobs in the coming year.

Jobseekers are directed to the Royal Mail’s dedicated job site at royalmail.com/xmasjobs.
