Tue, 2 Sep 2013A total of 1,000 new jobs were created across the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) in the first half of the year, equal to 7% growth in the hub among its 979 registered companies.

The DIFC issued 94 new commercial licences to companies starting up over the six months, including the Agricultural Bank of China, Asia Capital Re, China Construction Bank (Dubai) and FTSE International (MEA).

Chinese banks have also attracted a suitor in London Mayor Boris Johnson, who in May said that some of the countries top banks were expressing “strong interest for office space” at a new £1bn business zone in London's docklands that could create 20,000 jobs.

As previously reported by recruiter.co.uk, Dubai is the 23rd most competitive financial centre globally, the top in the Middle East and Africa, according to City think-tank Z/Yen's Global Financial Centres Index.

It was also named as one of three emerging global contenders alongside Beijing and Moscow, although it was not one of the 10 centres likely to become more significant.

  • A survey released yesterday from UK-based banking and financial services recruiter Astbury Marsden showed that the number of new jobs in the City was up 16% in August against the previous month, to 2,490
