Tue, 17 Sept 2013Energy smart-meter manufacturer Landis+Gyr is to create 600 new jobs in the UK after landing a £600m contract to supply British Gas with smart-meters.
A Landis+Gyr spokesperson tells Recruiter that the company will be recruiting for a variety of roles, including R&D, electrical and manufacturing engineers, as well manufacturing, technical and logistical positions.
The spokesperson says it is too early to say how the new jobs, which will double the company’s current UK workforce, will be split between the firm’s two existing locations – Stockport and Peterborough.
The contract paves the way for British Gas to begin recruiting 500 smart energy experts who will install smart meters and provide energy efficiency advice to households. A British Gas spokesperson tells Recruiter that new recruits will be trained at British Gas’s training academy before being deployed across the UK.
Andreas Umbach, chief executive officer at Landis+Gyr, says: the deal with British Gas allows the company “to expand our UK operations and to further establish the UK as a global centre of smart-energy excellence. This is great news for the industry and for our employees”.
