Based on a poll of 400 UK recruitment firms, the report from business services firm KPMG and the Recruitment & Employment Confederation shows vacancy growth at a three-year high and the strongest increase in temp billings in seven months.

Engineering was the sector with the strongest demand for both temporary and permanent staff, by a substantial margin for permanent staff, and only marginally ahead of nursing, medical & care on the contract side.

All sectors saw overall growth in hiring demand.

A separate survey today from accountancy firm BDO shows UK business confidence at its highest point since May 2012.
