Mobile phone maker Motorola is to design, engineer and assemble its new Moto X smartphone in the US, creating 2,000 jobs.

The manufacturing will happen in Fort Worth, Texas, the same state due to benefit from a major job creating investment from tech giants Apple.

Motorola says that by being based closer to both its customers and its designers, based in Illinois and California, a smaller supply chain will see devices arrive with users faster than previously.

Jobs are open online via Motorola’s website now, with manufacturing due to start in August.
