HR decision makers find large portions of their time sucked up in handling routine calls and emails from employees, with staffing queries the most frequent, finds research by knowledge base vendor Transversal.
Its survey of over 100 HR decision makers in firms with over 500 staff was conducted by market research firm Vanson Bourne. One finding was that 36% of respondents spend over a third of their day on average handling routine enquiries from staff.
Those HR professionals estimate that nearly half of these information requests could be answered by simply looking at information already available to staff.
Staffing leads the list of the most frequent requests for information or guidance, as experienced by 70% of those surveyed, followed by benefits (57%) and employee relationship (54%) questions.
Just over half (51%) said that this restricts the HR department’s ability to be more strategic.
