Expansion plans at three multinational firms have created new jobs across the UK.
Wed, 19 Jun 2013Expansion plans at three multinational firms have created new jobs across the UK.

Terumo BCT
The Japanese blood component and cellular technologies firm is to create over 400 new jobs in Northern Ireland, according to various media outlets.

The 416 jobs figure is being widely reported following a speech from Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who has been in Northern Ireland this week at the G8 Summit of world leaders.

Abe referred to “significant” jobs news in a speech, in which he hailed Northern Ireland as a “treasure trove of challenge, openness and innovation”. The investment is being supported by government agency Invest NI.

This comes after veterinary medicines maker Norbrook announced new jobs in Northern Ireland yesterday, following news that pharmaceutical firm Almac would expand and hire, as recruiter.co.uk reported last week.

TNT Post
The private postal firm has created 500 jobs by expanding its delivery service in South West London.

Many of the 500 new roles have gone to people who were previously unemployed, the company says. TNT Post says it has created a total of 1,000 jobs in London since April 2012 as part of a trial delivery service which if rolled out nationally would see it hire 20,000 people over the next five years.

Just under one in five (95 in total) of the new recruits came from the government’s Work Programme or the Youth Contract, the same number again from the company’s own pre-employment training course, 15 from employment services firm Remploy and the remainder from local job centres. Just under a third are aged 18-24.

AstraZeneca
Finally, a spokesperson for pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca tells Recruiter it is too early to give much detail on potential recruitment at the firm’s newly-announced £330m global research & development centre and corporate headquarters in Cambridge.

The spokesperson says it is “really difficult to say [what recruitment will happen] – we’re yet to determine which staff will move across, obviously there will be some new jobs…but which and how many, it is very difficult to determine at this stage”.
