A Private Member’s Bill proposing to extend the powers of the Gangmasters Licensing Authority (GLA) to regulate employment agencies across all sectors of the economy was presented to parliament on 24 June.

The second reading debate is scheduled for 24 January next year.
The introduction of the bill follows unconfirmed reports that the government plans to close down the Employment Agency Standards Inspectorate.
The bill is sponsored by Andy Sawford, Labour MP for Corby and East Northamptonshire. Recruiter.co.uk tried to contact Sawford but he was not available for comment.
