Recruitment firms could be in danger of losing placements due to sensitive data security problems, according to a recent survey.

Research from data security firm Voltage Security shows that 40% of firms have missed out on a sales opportunity because they weren’t able to access the information they needed.

And nearly half (46%) say they know of cases where the possibility of losing a sales opportunity has been avoided by someone bypassing security controls to access necessary sensitive information to get the job done.

The study of 300 IT professionals also shows a paradox around the securing of data.

While 29% of organisations would notice within seconds or minutes if sensitive data wasn’t secured, a worrying 40% would never notice – alarming Voltage says given that more than half of respondents stated they had access to financial, customer or HR information they didn’t really need.
