The European Central Bank (ECB) could hire 1,997 bank supervision staff, according to a new report as reported in the Financial Times.
Details of the confidential study by Promontory Financial Group were leaked by two people to the FT, which says it recommends “a rapid build-up so Frankfurt [the ECB’s HQ] has the resources and clout to properly fulfil its supervision role and protect its reputation”. There are no indications whether jobs may be based in Frankfurt or elsewhere.
The 2,000 jobs figure is higher than the 500-1,000 the ECB had suggested it would need in December.
The FT notes that the report’s findings and recommendations are not binding.
