The US Department of Labor has announced a $15.59m (£9.6m) national emergency grant to New Jersey following this week’s Hurricane Sandy to assist with damage restoration and provision of temporary work to those in need of employment.

A third of this money will be released immediately, with the rest made available if and when it is needed. Last week, as reported by recruiter.co.uk, another national emergency grant of £200,000 was made for around 120 workers laid off when telecoms firm T-Mobile closed a Redmond, Oregon facility.
