Campaign to recruit Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games volunteers off to strong start
More than 20,000 people have registered an interest in the first two weeks of the campaign to recruit 15,000 volunteers for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, according to the Games’ general manager of volunteering.
Neil Campion tells Recruiter that he welcomes the level of interest, which he says has been boosted by high visibility of the 2012 volunteer Games Makers in making the London Games so successful.
However, it also presents a problem of managing candidates’ expectations. Campion says he expects to get in the region of 100,000 applications for up to 15,000 positions.
“We don’t have that many positions,” he says. He says that some applicants are likely to be pointed towards other opportunities in and around the Games and the city. These include the opening and closing ceremonies, the cultural programme and the Queen’s Baton Relay.
Applications formally open in January, with Campion’s team expecting to process around 100,000 applications, generating 40,000 interviews and making around 23,000 offers.
