Energy firm ScottishPower is looking to recruit for 340 new positions at two suppliers – the next stage in a broader expansion drive which the firm’s chairman says can play a part in the industry being an engine of economic growth.
The company has signed a three-year contract with Glasgow-based contact centre management firm Response UK, which will provide the roles including customer service agents, team managers and operational managers. At the same time, a further 40 new jobs have also been created to support the company’s Home Comfort products, which includes boiler maintenance roles and back office support roles. The contract to support the Home Comfort service has been awarded to Sierra Support Services.
The company announced in February it was to invest £6.5m in grassroots skills development, and take on 50 new apprentices and at least 50 graduates by 2013 as part of a 300-job expansion of its electricity network.
Chairman Ignacio Galan, speaking yesterday (10 October) at the Scottish Low Carbon Investment Conference, said: “Despite global financial uncertainty, the energy sector has the potential to become an engine of economic growth and recovery. Indeed, more than ever, the industry’s role as driver of investment and job creation will be crucial for future prosperity.”
