Thu, 19 Jan 2012ReThink Recruitment Group has opened an office in Houston, Texas to serve the burgeoning oil and gas market. The new office is part of the company’s plan for “global domination” in the energy sector, says a director of the company.
Michael Bennett tells Recruiter that the company is looking to take advantage of demand for highly skilled white-collar workers in the expanding oil and gas sector. “It’s just a hot market,” says Bennett.
The new office will supply a wide range of white-collar professionals, such as engineers, geologists, and petro physicists, as well as technical specialists.Bennett says there is strong demand from companies for these highly skilled and well-paid individuals both from major oil and gas companies, and from sub-contractors such as Wipro.
The new office is headed up by Drew Horsley, a Texan with over six years’ experience in the US oil and gas sector. Horsley is joined by four local consultants, also with previous sector experience. The plan is to double the size of the office to a dozen consultants by the end of the year.
The market is very much candidate-led, says Bennett. “It not a case of sticking an ad on a job board and people will respond,” he says. However, he adds that by hiring consultants with niche experience and knowledge ReThink can make a real impact in the market. “We have got the people that can unearth the skills that clients want,” he says.
ReThink’s new office in Houston is unlikely to be the end of its international ambitions in the energy sector. “It is part of our plan for global domination in the energy sector,” says Bennett.
Bennett says the company is already looking at other locations around the world, such as Singapore.
ReThink Recruitment Group already has a presence in the Middle East in Dubai, where it provide recruitment and consulting services to the Middle East, Africa and Near Asian territories.
ReThink is likely to face stiff competition in the US. Earlier this month, Hays opened an office in Houston to serve the oil and gas sector. According to a report published by BP today, global oil demand will increase by 18% by 2030, with the US set to become nearly energy self-sufficient by that date.
