International insurer Hiscox is to open a new UK office in York in February 2013, creating 300 new jobs.

International insurer Hiscox is to open a new UK office in York in February 2013, creating 300 new jobs.
Initially, the office will take up temporary space in February 2013 for 120 staff, before moving into a new facility in Autumn 2014 where it will recruit a further 180.The investment is part of a broader ‘York 800’ programme, with job creation one of the major tenets of the plan.
Steve Langan, managing director for Hiscox UK, says: “We looked throughout the UK for a new location, but were swayed by York's unique combination of excellent infrastructure, well-educated workforce and quality of life.”
Adds Kersten England, chief executive of City of York Council: “City of York Council has worked with Hiscox to understand their culture, ethos and requirements and demonstrated the qualities York has to offer, including a strong resilient economy, a creative city and a competitive destination for business.”
