Executives responding to a recent Financial Times global impact study are more pessimistic about advancing their careers in the current business climate than they were two years ago, believing it is too risky now to move jobs.

Yet the research, conducted between May and July this year, also found that 51% expect to change jobs within the next six months and 55% believe they will move to new roles within the next two years.

FT product insight manager Monica Todd also told a London audience today [16 October] that senior management are using online sources more for new jobs in 2012 than they did in 2010.

Of the nearly 4,500 respondents, 57% reported using recruitment websites in 2012 compared to 40% in 2010, 51% are using online job boards compared to 22% two years ago, and 31% are using social media websites compared to 24% in 2010.

Using national newspaper websites has dropped from 32% to 30% since 2010, with national newspaper usage dropping from 30% to 25% in the same time period.

Of the respondents, 58% were senior management and 37% were below senior management. The largest percentage of respondents (37%) work in the business services sector.
