Workers take on hobbies to impress potential employers

Three in four UK workers are taking on a hobby to impress prospective employers, according to a new poll by recruitment agency review site Hirescores.com.

Three in four UK workers are taking on a hobby to impress prospective employers, according to a new poll by recruitment agency review site Hirescores.com.

The poll of 1,279 people shows that 76% were taking on hobbies to improve their CV.

Those that had taken on a hobby were also asked which activities they have included on their CVs to make it look better.

 The top 10 activities that people take part in to boost their career prospects are:

1.    Charity work - 79%

2.    Speaking a foreign language – 75%

3.    Going to the gym – 67%

4.    College course – 66%

5.    Playing a musical instrument – 63%

6.    Taking up a sport – 55%

7.    Amateur dramatics – 51%

8.    Reading – 47%

9.    Cooking – 42%

10.  Socialising – 34%
