Workers suffering from hay fever hangover

Around 1.3m workers will suffer a hay fever hangover at work this summer, according to a new poll.

The poll, from online chemist Lloyds pharmacy, found that 1.3m workers will experience the symptoms of a hangover due to hay fever.  The symptoms include: feeling sluggish, sleepy and experiencing headaches.

The key contributor is the antihistamine medication, taken by many sufferers, which is likely to make around a quarter of them drowsy and slow off the mark.

UK business stands to lose £324 million in lost productivity and lost working days.

Chris Frost, head of marketing, Lloydspharmacy, said:  “Everyone who has ever suffered even mild symptoms of hay fever knows just how frustrating a condition it is.  Many of the symptoms are indeed similar to a hangover, or even flu.  This can be tough for sufferers as it holds them back at work and they haven’t even had a drink to deserve it!”
