Why wouldn't you move down under is what I say!

Having made the move from the UK myself over five years ago, I can safely say that after 14 years in the recruitment industry, my only regret is that I hadn’t moved earlier! Will Wood, Managing Director of Lime Resourcing

As an industry, we recruiters have very transferable skill sets, which can thrive in most countries, as the skilled employment market gets tighter and demand for agencies grows. The only difference will be the local changes in culture and how business is done - and here in Australia, you’ll find a very relaxed way to work!

An interesting fact: prior to the global financial crisis almost 70% of recruiters in Sydney were from the UK and it’s not hard to see why. Australia has a small population for such a huge country, just over 21 million, and as a nation we are developing an economic infrastructure that
demands a skilled labour force.

Australia fell into the global financial crisis like most countries, but has powered out of recession this year with most recruiters, especially in IT, Banking and Engineering recording exceptional financial success during 2010, and looking forward to a record breaking 2011.

The reason for this is Australia’s wealth of natural resources and its resources sector, which powers the great manufacturing nations of China and India. That in turn streams down the various industry sectors - hence we are in such great shape economically.

Australia’s lifestyle and easy-going attitude, makes it a great place to do business, with most organisations being motivated to use agencies and seeing the benefit in a highly competitive labour market. The whole idea of “giving someone a go” is universal here, with business open and excited to hear what you might have to offer, and grabbing a coffee to discuss a few resumés is how it’s done - usually under a sun shade!!

If you’re a recruiter looking for a move and considering a move to Australia, demand for UKexperienced recruiters is huge. Salaries are generally higher here, as are the commission structures and this coupled with a strong demand for people make it an enviable place forrecruiters to settle. Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth are the traditional locations, with each city having a personality of its own.

Depending on your skill set, one city may offer more benefits over another, but one thing that’s constant is the lifestyle around and outside of work. Australia isn’t known as the “lucky country” or “the best address on earth” for nothing and those that have visited can concur with that - and those that haven’t, get yourselves down here for a look! Sponsorship is available for most recruiters and if you are keen to find out more about the career options, what it’s like to live here and the process involved coming out to Australia, please contact us, and one of Limes consultants can walk you through it.
