Welfare system to be opened up to bidders

Britain’s welfare system will be opened up to private and voluntary sector bidders to improve service delivery.

James Purnell, work and pensions secretary, unveiled the initiative to allow private companies to arrive at deliver innovative business models.

Purnell told the Financial Times: "This is us saying very clearly the only limit is the quality of service and the imagination of the provider."
