TUI: Degree is no guarantee of job

Having a degree is no guarantee of landing a graduate entry job, according to Thomas Barnett, senior trading and student placement manager for TUI UK & Ireland.

Having a degree is no guarantee of landing a graduate entry job, according to Thomas Barnett, senior trading and student placement manager for TUI UK & Ireland.

Thomas’s comments follow a survey this week from Totaljobs.com, which showed that while the average graduate salary is currently £25,000, one in 10 undergraduates believe they will earn over £35,000 in their first graduate job.

Barnett told Recruiter: “A lot of students don’t realise that having a degree is not always enough to secure a graduate entry job. In many cases employers are more interested in work experience and transferable skills.

“At TUI UK we have set up a placement scheme to give students a real job and responsibility for a year, so that they are prepared for the workplace and can have a head start when applying for high flying graduate jobs.”
