Test candidate HR knowledge, says Burrell

HR recruiters need to test candidates’ knowledge of HR and skills, according to Tracy Burrell, HR manager at domestic equipment cover provider Domestic & General, Nottingham.

HR recruiters need to test candidates’ knowledge of HR and skills, according to Tracy Burrell, HR manager at domestic equipment cover provider Domestic & General, Nottingham.

Burrell told Recruiter: “I think for me, it is key to put into place a range of testing in different areas to find out their HR knowledge and skills, such as in admin, IT, and in Word, Excel etc. We would then be able to measure a candidate’s ability, before appointment, so we are literally matching a candidate’s skills to our requirements.

“As a company, we test skills based on the position; for example, for someone more senior in the team we are likely to test their HR knowledge on employment law.”
