Take control of change

Ed Percival, business coach

The world has changed. Economic depression has altered things forever. Your world of recruiting won’t come back the way it was. And human beings will kill for familiarity.

According to Darwin, the most successful species are the ones that are best at adapting. So you can fight against change or you can rebel against it. Or you can learn how to adapt.

If you are not fit and went along to a gym and the trainer suggested you drop and do 100 push ups, that’s probably not going to work. It’s probably better to gradually progress.

And so it is with change. Consider what small changes you could make in life. Then make them. Nothing earth shattering like 100 push ups. Change your route to work, your newspaper, the order in which you read it, which shoe you put on first. Get the idea?

Nothing huge, just gradually building up your ability to deal with something changing. You’re in control.

Change one small thing every day and you’re becoming more flexible without noticing. Next thing you know, you’ve changed ahead of the outside influences that have been driving change in your life.

You’ll notice that others are struggling to adapt and you’re going faster than the flow.
