A freeze on teacher recruitment is to be imposed on schools in Angus, Scotland.

The Scotsman reports that three primary schools in Glenisla, Lintrathen and Kilry will merge to form a new single Glenisla School in a bid to save £1.37m from the council’s budget.

Music teachers and foreign language assistants are also set to be cut to save £160,000 as part of council-wide cutbacks to reduce the overall budget for 2010-11 by £4.4m.

The paper adds that all teaching vacancies, including posts for additional support staff for children with learning difficulties, will be delayed.
