The recent heavy snowfall proved no obstacle to the workers from rail recruiter SkyBlue who managed to complete 12,000 work hours over the Christmas period across 12 UK rail sites without a reportable health and safety incident.

The firm delivered blockades and signalling work for principal contractor Carillion Rail on 12 projects, covering the North London Line, Southampton Tunnels and several external client sites across the UK involving 419 SkyBlue workers.

Much of the work was carried out from Christmas Day until the New Year during the recent cold snap.

Phill Murphy, head of operations for SkyBlue Rail, says: “We can’t emphasise enough how proud and grateful we are to the SkyBlue rail workers who work every year during the Christmas period to ensure that essential maintenance works are carried out on the country’s rail lines.

Archie Tait, project director for the North London Rail Infrastructure Project, adds: “Carillion successfully completed all planned infrastructure works on the North London Railway for clients Network Rail which were undertaken over a 10 day blockade. I want to thank the workforce and in particular SkyBlue who worked without accident or incidents despite the adverse weather conditions.”
