The Recruitment Society is moving beyond its traditional South-East hinterland in pursuit of its aim to become a truly national organisation, according to its chairman Steve Huxham.

Announcing plans to formally launch the society in the Midlands and in the North West, Huxham told Recruiter: “The bottom line is that we are a national membership organisation, but for historic reasons the actual get togethers have been held in the South-East.”

“For some time we have wanted people in the regions to have the opportunity for more personal involvement. We just want to make sure that nobody is left out because they live in outside London and the South-East.”

The Midlands launch will take the form of a panel debate in Birmingham on 24 March.

In the North-West, there will be a working lunch on 19 April hosted by Network Rail in Manchester.

“The aim of the meeting will be to establish level of interest, create a local committee, and think about topics and hosts for a North West speaker programme,” adds Huxham.

Huxham says the initial plan is to hold meetings in the regions on a quarterly basis.

“We will do more if we can, but it’s a case of not running before we can walk.”
