Public poll says recession is on the way

Eighty per cent of people believe Britain is heading for recession, according to a Guardian poll published today.

And 60% of those questioned in the Guardian/ICM survey say they are cutting spending, with 71% spending less on food and 70% spending less on driving, fuel and household bills.

Meanwhile, 68% said they were cutting back on big household items and 55% economising on DIY and home improvements.
