Majority want constables to replace police community support officers

The majority of people want the police to recruit real police to replace civilian police community support officers (PCSOs).

A survey commissioned by the Police Federation found that seven out of 10 people wanted PCSOs to make way for real police officers.

The research also found that the public felt that constables earning £21,000 represented better value than PCSOs on £16,000 a year.
