UK online search volumes for jobs in London have increased by 10%, from 550,000 in March to 673,000 in June, according to a report from social marketing agency Greenlight.

The report also pointed to a rise in online searches for career advice, with search volumes for the term ‘career advice’ rising from just 14,800 searches in March to 1m in June.

Of the 18 sectors covered in the report, job searches within retail and sales attracted the highest search volumes, over 700,000, followed by administration and HR followed and construction and engineering.

Recruitment attracted the least number of job queries with around 30,000, followed by procurement, science and technology, each recording little over 120,000 searches

TotalJobs was the most visible website followed by Reed, Monster and Gumtree.

Simon Hollingsworth, lead researcher at Greenlight, says: “The surge in career advice may likely be explained by the influx of recent graduates researching career information online.

“In addition, the recession, which resulted in job losses, has seen people look to pursue new career paths and acquire skills enabling them to apply for roles beyond those they have traditionally worked in.”
