National Minimum Wage is workers’ top concern

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) is the most pressing concern of workers calling the government’s Pay and Work Rights helpline.

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) is the most pressing concern of workers calling the government’s Pay and Work Rights helpline.

Launched in September, the helpline has received more 50,000 calls with 68% of calls related to the NMW, while other common enquiries relate to Employment Agency Standards, working hour limits and the agricultural minimum wage.

Employment relations minister Lord Young says: “It is encouraging that so many have been assisted by the helpline since the launch. Workers and employers across industries should be aware of rights when it comes to work and pay and the helpline is there to offer people help, advice and support in knowing these rights.”
