Media recruitment: Industry not affected by widespread age discrimination claims, says recruiter

Following television presenter Selina Scott’s decision to sue Channel Five for up to £1m over claims that she was discriminated against for being too old, a media recruiter has claimed that such claims are the exception and not the norm.

Caroline Foote, managing director at Career Moves, told Recruiter: “We do not have a problem. We deal with a range of broadcasters and media organisations and although the media is supposedly a youthful environment, with the roles we recruit for we send a complete range of people and we have had no problems recruiting people from all walks of life. If you have found yourself out of work after being a reporter it could be for myriad reasons. If programmes want a different slant, they will change their top talent and that could be for any reason; it could be a style thing. It won’t necessarily be to do with age.”
