Unemployment has risen by the sharpest rate since 1992
Unemployment figures rose by 60,000 in the three months to June, taking the official jobless rate to 5.4%, the biggest jump since 1992.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said unemployment increased to 1.67m between April and June.
The data suggests that a slowing economy is taking its toll on the labour market.
The ONS also said the number of people claiming jobless benefits in July rose by 20,100 to 846,700, the sixth consecutive rise.
