Job demand rose by 15% on last year in January, according to the latest Monster Employment Index.

The index reveals the IT sector saw opportunities increase more than any other sector with 34% annual growth.

Demand for accounting and tax professionals has soared by 18% over the year.

Unsuprisingly, the public sector, defence and community registered a 23% drop on last January due to public austerity measures.

Meanwhile, the Monster Employment Index Europe also reports annual growth of 25% in January, with Germany leading the way and transport, post and logistics recording the greatest annual gain. However, property was the only sector to see increased demand from December to January, driven by growth in Germany and France, while public sector jobs continued to fall.
