A winter chill in IT contractor offers from the finance sector has not frozen recruitment in the sector.

While IT job offers from financial firms in December were 75% down on the previous month, according to employment screening company powerchex, IT recruiters are continuing to make placements.

Satnam Brar, managing director of IT recruiter Maximus, told Recruiter the business was very busy, having taken on five new staff to deal with demand and plans to continue hiring.

“We are finding growth in a lot of the intelligence markets. Clients want to be achieving more from their systems, especially on the financial side.”

However, Brar warned clients are actively trying to negotiate contract rates down.
