Interviewer recruit
Mike Harris, founder of banks Egg and First Direct, has joined interactive video-based website www.bemyinterviewer.co.uk.
The site enables jobseekers to practise for interviews. He joins Duncan Bannatyne, Ruth Badger and Jacqueline Gold in posing key interview questions on topics including money, experience, personality and selling yourself.
Harris’s experience is in banking, finance and IT. He is currently the executive chairman of online identity experts Garlik, which develops services to protect personal information and identity online. He is also chairman of group innovation at RBS.
Commenting on good interview skills, Harris said: “You look for slightly different things in a candidate if you’re interviewing for small start-up companies than if you’re recruiting for a large company, but for me the fundamental principles are the same. When I’m interviewing, I’m always looking to ascertain whether the candidate is going to fit in and add to the talent and energy of the team they’re joining and the wider culture of the company. I also need to find out whether they have the skills and experience we’re looking for. I think preparation for interviews is crucial in being able to impress on the day.”
