Growth in the oil industry in Iraq’s self-governing Kurdistan province will see huge demand for global talent, according to Paul Flynn, managing director of specialist recruiter Earthstaff.

The intricacies of the legal situation – there are no oil & gas laws between the two countries, apart from the fact that all exports must go through Baghdad – mean that Kurdistan’s oil industry is in certain ways distinct from that of the rest of Iraq, Flynn tells Recruiter. He also says that the volume and quality of the oil are promising signs, as well as the fact that Kurdistan has “significant markets on their doorstep” such as Turkey.

It is a long-term project, but one with great potential. “This is about early entry into a marketplace. I’d say by 2015 this country is looking to produce millions of barrels a day,” he says.
