A recruitment rush in New Zealand is expected following the end of the Rugby World Cup, reports news site stuff.co.nz.

With the Rugby World Cup monopolising the nation’s attention, business as a whole in New Zealand has been slow of late, but a recruitment rush is expected once the tournament finishes on 23 October and after the 26 November general election takes place.

Many construction jobs have been paused during the World Cup, with managing director of multi-sector recruiter Hays Recruitment New Zealand, Jason Walker, saying: “We will see a big push for trades and skilled civil labourers from contractors once these works are resumed to make up for the delay.”

The jobs created as a result of the Christchurch earthquake earlier in the year has also seen demand for talent elsewhere, Walker told stuff.co.nz: “The Christchurch rebuild is also seeing engineers at all levels moving to the South Island and this is leaving employment gaps nationally.”

Quantity surveyors and insurance claims workers have also been required around Christchurch in large numbers.

The period October-December is also expected to see strong demand for financial controllers, senior internal auditors and business analysts in both the public and private sectors.
