HR recovery preparation plans on hold

HR is showing no signs of gearing up for the recovery, according to HR recruiters.

Last week, business consultant Bill Boorman recommended that recruiters prepare for the recovery and even predicted that the recession will officially be over on 10 May 2010.

But Michael Bolger, managing director at Badger Associates, told Recruiter: “I think it is far too early. I don’t think any HR professional is even considering it at the moment. Many of them have not been affected by the recession and will do less well when we come out of the recession. Accountancy firms dealing with corporate recovery, for example. The ones that have been affected will lag behind the curve in terms of employing people.”

Laurence Bresslaw, divisional director at HR Counsel, adds: “I think it’s a bit early. It is the positivity around people wanting to move jobs. It is starting to happen a little bit. It is a slower process.

“When you are talking turnaround big time, it will be in-house recruiters coming back because they were the first to go. They have not got those in yet.”
