HR and training professionals have a positive approach to what is likely to be a challenging year, according to a new survey.

HR and training professionals have a positive approach to what is likely to be a challenging year, according to a new survey.

The survey, from HR recruiter Network HR, shows that while 81% of HR and training staff were experiencing the effects of the downturn, 47% felt ready for the challenge it posed.

Lisa Wormald, director at Network HR, told Recruiter: “It is encouraging that 66% feel secure in their role and that 58% of companies have either increased or at least kept their training budgets the same as 2008.

“What is interesting is that 84% of respondents felt that the media coverage of the economic downturn has been exaggerated, damaging and overly negative.”

Cheryl Thomas, director at HR recruiter CjM HR Consultancy, adds: “Personally, I think the media has talked us into this in the first place. I think there are signs in terms of growth.

“While some sectors are pulling back, some are moving forward. It is anything from local authorities to the oil industry. They are still recruiting.”
