As Greece continues to reel from the impact of its debt crisis, the country’s executives are increasingly looking abroad for opportunities.
Iraklis Papadopolous, principal and country manager, Greece at Pedersen & Partners, told Recruiter that with many senior executives in Greece being made redundant, there was “a lot of interest in relocating into other markets”.
These markets included South-East Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and North Africa where many Greek companies have diversified as the Greek domestic market has weakened since the debt crisis first struck in 2009.
However, Papadopolous said it was not always out of desperation that Greek executives were moving overseas: “Greece has really good executives, with considerable experience in international operations. Quite often the major opportunities are not in their domestic market, and they cannot use their experience and knowledge in Greece.”
