Frightened of sales? It's part and parcel of a recruiter's job

Oh dear, oh dear. It seems Anil Aphale might have been turned down for a recruitment consultant role in the past for not being too keen to sell (Letters, Recruiter 12 May).

Firstly, the level of ’sales’ needed depends on the recruitment position in question. Secondly, the comment from Anil ’I spend a lot of time looking at the websites of recruitment agencies’ makes me wonder how much time he spends placing people or finding new vacancies. If any of my consultants said this I would be looking at their figures very carefully.

All roles in recruitment, whether we recognise it or not, involve sales in one way or another so I don’t understand why so many people are afraid of sales. I would like to see how long any agency lasts without sales being involved. Any agency making money without jobs to fill is a trick I would like to see.
