The father of a convicted fraudster who is serving six years in prison was himself jailed for two and a half years.

Alan Baker, of Lydbury North, Shropshire was convicted of money laundering at Southwark Crown Court this morning. Baker was also disqualified from being a company director for six years.

During the case, the jury heard how the owners of Lincolnshire recruiter Allied Staff Management were left with debts of £290,000 after Baker and his son Tim became involved with the company.

In May 2008, Tim Baker, who was described by the judge as “a ruthless conman”, was sentenced to six years for his part in two frauds costing RBS and HSBC £700,000.

Alan Baker was previously found not guilty of conspiracy to defraud following a two-week trial at Southwark Crown Court in July 2009. 

Baker was accused of taking part in an invoice factoring fraud involving two recruitment companies, Allied Staff Management and Revo Recruitment, of West Sussex, for four months in early 2008.
