Always call prospective clients utilising a Valid Business Reason - you will get through to more people, more often than by starting with a cold call approach. Here are three excellent reasons to ensure a hiring authority takes your call.
A great job opportunity
When working on an assignment, call decision makers who may perform the skillsrequired in the job or who know the people who possess those skills.
SELL them the opportunity and ask for their advice and assistance. “Who do you know who could perform this role?”
Tell them that you are a specialist and will be able to return the favour someday.
Most people want to be helpful and if persistent, you will obtain referrals.
They may even be personally interested in the role for themselves.
Even if you do not receive a referral this time, you have established your credibility. You have given the decision maker a REASON to talk to you, to recognise that you are a source of good job opportunities and will therefore be more receptive to future calls.
A great candidate
Use your best candidates as ‘door openers’.
Call prospective hiring authorities and present outstanding candidates that you have previously interviewed.
Tell the hiring authority the most significant thing the candidate has accomplished and ask whom they know that might be interested in hearing about this individual.
Having established yourself as a source of exceptional talent, ask what openings their company have that you can help fill.
Check the references of marketable candidates
Call to obtain a reference on candidates you plan to work with. Not only will your subsequent marketing of that candidate be enhanced but you will also have spoken with a new contact who will be impressed with the professional manner with which you conducted the reference check.
The hiring authority might therefore be more inclined to be a source of candidates for your job orders, to provide you with a job order or be inclined to think of you when they have a requirement.
