FTSE firms are greener than non-listed companies

FTSE firms are greener than their non-listed counterparts, according to new research.

The research by Adecco found that 52% of listed FTSE firms recycled electronic equipment compared to 39% of non-listed firms.

FTSE employees thought their business was environmentally friendly in 76% of cases.

Recycling office paper and print cartridges, and turning off lights when not needed were the three most green activities reported.

Adecco Group UK & Ireland chief executive, Rene Schuster, said: “Climate change is a powerful issue and one that has even started to appear as a catalyst to encourage employees to work for an organisation. But whilst companies see the importance in tackling climate change, many appear to be only doing the bare minimum to meet the government standards. Employers not only have a responsibility to the environment to address high carbon emissions, but also to their employees as many will be looking for a company that takes these issues seriously.”
